Calculating Torque Requirements
Selection should be based on the maximum torque required at the drive wheel or hose reel. For centre pivot irrigation, the requirement depends on tower count, sprinkler pipeline weight, terrain gradient and soil conditions. For hose reel irrigators, it depends on reel dimensions, the weight of the water-filled PE hose and retrieval speed. Apply an appropriate safety factor to the calculated torque to accommodate changes in soil moisture and mechanical resistance.

Ingress Protection and Sealing
Outdoor irrigation equipment is exposed to rain, dust, mud, fertilisers and pesticides. The specified ingress protection rating (IP rating) and sealing arrangement directly affect service life. Seal failure can cause lubricant leakage and contaminant ingress, accelerating gear and bearing wear. Applications in coastal areas of the Middle East also require suitable corrosion protection.
Maintenance Intervals and Lubrication
Agricultural equipment often has limited maintenance windows. Long service intervals or maintenance-free designs can significantly reduce total operating costs. Lubricant selection and seal quality are key factors in determining service intervals. SANYOO irrigation products use precision die-cast aluminium housings and high-quality seals to help extend grease replacement intervals.
